Salem Tops Agnes Scott, Captures GSAC Soccer Title

SALEM, N.C. The Salem College Spirtis topped Agnes Scott 2-0 in the GSAC Soccer title match to win the 2013 GSAC Soccer Championship.

The Spirtis used a goal from Tarryn Bundy off a feed from Sawyer Ferguson in the game's 31st minute to jump out to a lead. The, Salem doubled their lead just three seconds before halftime when Bethany Kent found Taylor Norman on a corner kick that Norman headed into the back of the net.

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team won 2-0 against Agnes Scott in dominating fashion in the Great South Tournament Championship. The win gives the Spirits an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament, which will begin next weekend. Salem will wait to see what regional they will head to, which will be announced tomorrow. Salem improves to 15-3-2 overall with their 10th straight win.

After several near misses by Salem, Tarryn Bundy (West Deptford, NJ) scored on an assist by Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) in the 32nd minute. The next goal came in incredible fashion. Salem was awarded a corner kick with less than 15 seconds remaining in the first half. Taylor Norman (Fairfax, VA) headed home the corner kick by Bethany Kent (Manassas, VA) with just 3 seconds left in the half.

Salem possessed the ball for most of the second half. Paige Ketchum (Jacksonville, NC) recorded the shut-out in goal and stopped the only two Agnes Scott shots on goal. Salem had 26 shots overall and a 6-1 corner kick advantage. Courtney Hedgecock (San Diego, CA) was awarded with the Tournament Most Valuable Player Trophy.

This game wraps up a historic run through the Great South for the soccer team. The team went 7-0 overall in conference play, and had a 33-0 goal advantage in those games.
