Presque Isle's Hotham Named Hoops Player of the Week for Holiday Contests

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference has announced the women's basketball Player of the Week for games played December 16 – January 5 during the holiday break and, following voting by the league's sports information directors, Amanda Hotham of Maine-Presque Isle won the first-ever award for the Owls.

Amanda Hotham (pictured at right) scored 55 points in 3 games this past week for the Owls, including a team-high 21 against St. John's of New Brunswick, Canada on January 4. The sophomore forward was 15-of-22 from the field, 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and 23-of-25 from the foul line during the three game stretch. Hotham also had 21 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in only 67 minutes of action.

Hotham is ranked in the top-40 nationally in foul shooting at 90.2% and is UMPI's leading scorer (14.2 ppg) and second leading rebounder (5.9 rpg) despite averaging only 22 minutes a game. For the season, Hotham is shooting 47.7% from the field and 50% from three point range.

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
