ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for all games played through February 23 – March 1 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Finlandia's Amanda Youker claimed the Player award while Wesleyan's Mellissa Webb won the Pitching honor.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week - Amanda Youker of Finlandia
In the opening weekend at the Finlandia Dome Tournament, Youker hit .438 (7-for-16) with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Youker also had a .813 slugging percentage for the weekend.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week - Mellissa Webb of Wesleyan
Webb helped the Wolves to a 2-2 week. Over the four games, she went 5-for-12 from the plate with 2 RBI. She batted .433 for the week as Wesleyan beat LaGrange 7-4 and SUNY Potsdam 5-0.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
