ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletics Conference announced the spring sports Players of the Week for contests played March 10 –16 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Agnes Scott's Holly Jones earned Softball Pitcher of the Week and Alexis Lawley of Finlandia captured Softball Player of the Week.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Holly Jones of Agnes Scott
Holly Jones (pictured at right) pitched 12.1 innings in four games over Spring Break in Florida. Jones earned a 5-1 win versus Finlandia, pitching 4 innings with 2 hits, 1 run, 0 earned runs, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Jones closed the Wesleyan University game resulting in 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk and 0 strikeouts. She started the game against Meredith with 4 innings pitched, resulting in 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 earned runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Jones also closed the Bloomfield game with 4 innings pitched 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. For the week, Jones accumulated 12.1 innings pitched, 11 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned run, 5 walks and 12 strikeouts to finish with 1 win, 1 loss, 2 games closed and a 0.74 ERA.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Alexis Lawley of Finlandia
Over a four game stretch, Finlandia junior Alexis Lawley went 9-of-14 at the dish batting .643. She scored 4 runs, and drove in 5 RBI with a double, homer, and hit-by-pitch to her credit. The Lions went 2-2 in these games.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
