ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletics Conference announced the spring sports Players of the Week for contests played February 24 –March 2 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Finlandia's Miranda Brewer earned Softball Pitcher of the Week and Alexis Lawley of Finlandia captured Softball Player of the Week.
GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week - Miranda Brewer of Finlandia
At the Finlandia annual softball dome tournament, Brewer was Finlandia's top pitcher, as she appeared in 3 games and earned a 2-0 record with a 2.38 ERA. In those 3 games, she had 17.2 innings pitched, gave up 18 hits, 6 earned runs, 7 walks, 19 strike outs, and held her opponents to a .257 batting average.
GSAC Softball Player of the Week - Alexis Lawley of Finlandia
Finlandia hosted its annual softball dome tournament last week and went 3-3. Alexis Lawley led the way for the Lions, playing in all 6 games at either 2nd base or catcher. She hit .611 on the weekend (11-for-18) with 2 doubles, 4 home runs, 7 rbi, 8 runs scored, 25 total bases, 1 walk, 2 hit by pitch, 0 strike outs, and a 1.389 slugging percentage. In the field, she had 19 put outs, 4 assists, and 1 error for a .958 fielding percentage.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
